The Chamber of Commerce is delighted to celebrate the success of the new ferry timetable, which is already delivering tangible results for Guernsey’s visitor economy and wider business community. The latest passenger figures for April and May show a significant surge in travel from France, with 18,617 arrivals recorded over the two-month period — a remarkable 128% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

These figures highlight the immediate impact of improved connectivity and more frequent, reliable sailings. The enhanced timetable has clearly made Guernsey a more accessible and attractive destination for French visitors. Importantly, this increased footfall will already be translating into real value for local retailers, hospitality venues, tour operators, and other service providers.

Chamber President Stephen Rouxel commented:
“We have long championed the importance of investing in strong transport links to support Guernsey’s economy, and these early results from the revised ferry schedule are incredibly encouraging. It’s proof that strategic changes — when well communicated and well delivered — can stimulate real growth for our island’s businesses.”

Whether it’s visitors dining in our restaurants, day-trippers exploring St Peter Port’s shops, or holidaymakers staying longer and exploring the whole island, the economic benefit of this surge in passenger numbers will be broad-based and far-reaching. It is especially heartening to see such positive results at the start of the season, providing a strong foundation for what could be a bumper summer ahead.

The Chamber continues to support efforts that enhance Guernsey’s appeal as a destination and welcomes the collaborative work between the Brittany Ferries, VisitGuernsey, and local stakeholders that has helped achieve this success.

Looking ahead, it will be vital to maintain momentum. Sustained marketing efforts in France, a continued focus on the visitor experience, and a commitment to connectivity must remain high on the agenda. Chamber will be engaging with members over the summer to gather insights and feedback on the economic impact of the increased visitor numbers.

For now, however, it’s time to acknowledge and celebrate what this boost in arrivals means for the business community. It is a clear reminder that when we invest in access and visibility, Guernsey thrives.
