We want to highlight our incredible sponsors who are helping us make the Gala Dinner possible. This month, we heard from Elizabeth Raine, General Manager of St Pierre Park Hotel.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself and your hotel.
I’m Elizabeth Raine, General Manager of St Pierre Park Hotel and Spa in Guernsey. St Pierre Park is a much-loved local institution, a relaxed yet elegant hotel surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, an award-winning spa, and a choice of diverse, high-quality dining experiences delivered with warm, attentive service. No two days are the same as a GM, that’s part of the joy of the role. I could be reviewing revenue performance in the morning, welcoming our guests in the afternoon, and at any point in the day working with my fantastic colleagues on a range of projects to make us even better. Our team are the heart of the hotel, and we want to deliver the best experience to our guests and to each other. It’s all about service, excellence, and consistency.
2. What’s something surprising people might not know about Hand Picked Hotels?
We may be a collection of hotels across the UK and Channel Islands, but Hand Picked is still very much a family-run business. That personal connection is important. Every hotel is unique, with its own personality and story and as GMs we’re given the autonomy to bring that to life in a way that fits the local market. At St Pierre Park, for example, our spa days are a favourite not only with guests but with islanders who see the hotel as a sanctuary, not just a stay. There’s a strong sense of place in everything we do.
3. What does it mean to you to be part of this year’s Gala Dinner?
It’s incredibly meaningful. Being part of a business that champions the local community, not just in words, but through action and sponsorship is something I’m genuinely proud of. The Gala Dinner brings together some of the most inspiring people across the islands, and it’s a moment to celebrate the shared progress we’re all contributing to. For Hand Picked, these partnerships reflect our long-term commitment to the Channel Islands. We’re not just here to operate hotels, but to be active participants in island life.
4. What’s something you and your teams are especially proud of right now?
We’re really proud of our ever improving guest and colleague experiences, we are consistently recognised for our warmth and friendliness of service and our attention to detail. It’s a credit to the team, who are a wonderfully diverse group of people from all parts of the globe and walks of life, one thing we all have in common is that we genuinely care about creating magical memories.
5. What kind of impact do you want to make through your work or in the community?
I want St Pierre Park to be known not just as a hotel, but as a place where people feel valued, whether they’re staying with us, working with us or visiting for an event. That means creating opportunities for local careers in hospitality, nurturing homnegrown talent and making the hotel a space that welcomes the wider community. We work closely with local suppliers and regularly host events that bring people together. That sense of connection is something I really value.
6. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in hospitality?
Be curious and say yes to opportunities, even if they’re outside your comfort zone. Some of the best lessons come from moments where you’re learning on your feet. Hospitality is fast-paced and ever-changing, but that’s also what makes it so rewarding. And don’t underestimate the power of listening and kindness, whether it’s to guests, colleagues, or yourself on the tougher days.
7. What’s your go-to pick-me-up after a long day – coffee, music, fresh air, or something stronger?
Definitely fresh air. There’s nothing like an early morning swim or walk along the coast to reset after a busy day. Living and working in Guernsey, we’re lucky to be surrounded by nature. That connection to the outdoors is something I never take for granted, it helps keep everything in perspective.
