Every month, we pose 7 questions to a Chamber member. This time it’s Lynn Whitworth, from NatWest International.
1. Who are you & what do you do?
I’m Lynn, and I manage the Corporate, Commercial and Business Banking team here at RBS International in Guernsey. Our team of 10 looks after a wide range of commercial and 3rd sector organisations across both the NatWest International and RBS International brands.
2. How did you end up doing this work?
I’ve always worked for the NatWest Group but coming to Guernsey was a happy accident following a conversation with a colleague who worked here. It was meant to be a 3-year placement and yet ended up marking the best period of my career, culminating in my current role, and here I am twenty years later….
3. What’s the ‘why’ behind your work?
I just love dealing with local businesses, whether they’re starting up or are established household names with a global presence. Helping our customers to fulfil their ambitions and grow is immensely satisfying, and I am proud that the team is as dedicated to doing that as I am.
For me, work has to have purpose and meaning and I strongly identify with NatWest Group’s overarching ambition of Winning Together.
4.What’s something most people don’t know about your company, but they should?
This year, we’ve proudly supported various charities creating real impact in our community, including Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation, Safer GSY, MUG and the Guernsey Community Foundation. Plus, in December, colleagues chose to donate £5,000 to each of six amazing local causes, including Les Bourgs Hospice and GSPCA.
We also encourage every colleague to take three fully paid volunteering days each year to support local charities.
5. Tell us about a moment you felt proud of the difference your work made?
Honestly, there are too many individual moments to mention since coming to live and work on Guernsey. However, I’m proud of my role in securing the Bank’s support for Guernsey Community Savings, which was established to ensure that no-one is financially disenfranchised, whatever their background or circumstances.
6. What mentor, book or podcast has shaped your thinking?
I really like John Spence’s bite sized blog posts about culture and leadership (John Spence Global Business Expert, Coach, Trainer and Author ). I stumbled across them shortly after taking up this role in 2024 and subscribe to his emails as I find them really practical, insightful and sensible.
7. Tea, coffee or something stronger, and where are we most likely to find you enjoying it?
It has to be tea – as anyone who knows me can attest! Freshly brewed, reasonably strong and with the milk added afterwards. I rarely get a takeaway tea, as seeing the teabag bobbing about in that milk & water combination is anathema. Absolute bliss at the weekend is to be at home with a nice cup of tea, an M&S éclair and a good book.
