Every month, we pose questions to a Chamber member. This time it’s one of our Strategic Partners, Butterfield Group.
Meet Archana Sharma-Petwal, Assistant Vice President – Premium and Business Banking
Strategic Partners are a small group of leading businesses who work closely with Chamber to support the local business community, build stronger connections across the islands, and help steer priorities on the issues members care about.
1. Beyond your job title, what do you actually do?

Archana Sharma-Petwal
I oversee a portfolio of premium and business clients, helping them navigate complex financial decisions. I focus on long‑term relationship building, strategic lending, and ensuring my clients have everything they need from a banking perspective to support their financial ambitions.
2. What’s something people don’t realise about your company?
Butterfield in Guernsey is deeply rooted we are in the island’s community. We’ve had a presence here for over 50 years, and offer banking and investment solutions for individuals, business(s), corporates, and charities. We continue to grow our expanding client base across Guernsey and Jersey.
Another thing people are often surprised by is the strength of our operation in other top-tier financial markets. Butterfield is an international banking group with other offices in Bermuda, Cayman, the UK, Singapore, Switzerland and The Bahamas. That combination of on‑island expertise with global resources means we can support clients with everything from day‑to‑day banking to complex wealth and international financial structures.
3. What’s your team genuinely proud of at the moment?
Our expansion into the local market across the Channel Islands. We provide competitive banking products alongside a relationship-driven service, making sure customers have the service levels they need.
Beyond the numbers, as we have mentioned, we are also incredibly community‑focused.
The bank invests heavily in local partnerships and events, everything from sporting sponsorships to family‑friendly community activities, which is a big part of how we stay connected with the island. We also have our own Channel Island charity foundation which provides annual grants to charities across the Channel Islands.
4. Why does being a Chamber strategic partner make sense for your business right now?
The timing is perfect because the Chamber is strengthening how it supports Guernsey’s business community, and as a local bank Butterfield plays an important role.
We are also focused on long-term growth for our business. Being a strategic partner with the Chamber gives us more opportunities to connect with businesses and support the wider economy through events, insights and thought leadership. The Chamber itself highlights this partnership as a way to bring trusted expertise and clearer guidance to members, which aligns exactly with what we bring.
5. After a tough day, what’s your reset?
My reset is shifting from work mode to family mode with my husband and my son.
