When we talk about better connectivity, it can sound a bit abstract – more sailings, smoother freight routes.
But every now and then, we get to see exactly what that means in real life: a local business spotting the opportunity, running with it, and creating something brilliant for our community.
That’s exactly what’s happening with the launch of Le Grand Rustique at Crêpe Maison, a new artisan French retail venture by local Chamber member Silvester Group.
Guernsey’s enhanced ferry schedule has already brought more visitors to our shores — and more possibilities for trade. Chamber has been working closely with the Committee for Economic Development and our business community to help local enterprises turn those improved links into real economic opportunity.
Le Grand Rustique is one of the first to do just that. Inspired by the recent success of the French Market, Founder and CEO Natalia Silvester saw the potential to make the experience permanent — sourcing high-quality artisan goods from across Normandy and Brittany and bringing them directly to islanders and visitors.
As Natalia puts it:
“We’ve always believed Guernsey has huge potential to strengthen its cultural and trading ties with France. The new freight and passenger connections make it easier than ever to bring the best of French artisan produce to the island.”
How Chamber helped connect the dots
Behind the scenes, Chamber has been instrumental in supporting businesses to make sense of these new opportunities — from facilitating conversations around freight and logistics, to connecting members who can collaborate across sectors.
Alice Gill, Executive Director of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce, said:
“This is a perfect example of how improved connectivity translates into tangible opportunities for local enterprise. Silvester Group’s new offering captures the momentum of the French Market and builds it into something sustainable that will benefit our retail, hospitality, and wider business community.”
A flavour of things to come: The island has already seen record foot-passenger arrivals from France this spring, and ventures like Le Grand Rustique show how these connections can strengthen our visitor economy and enrich local life.
