Housing Forum Establishes Clear Mission and Election Priorities

Guernsey’s housing challenges remain at the forefront of the business and community agenda, which has prompted the Chamber of Commerce to launch a ‘Housing Forum’— dedicated to bringing together key stakeholders to collaborate on solutions. Serving as an impartial coordinator, the Chamber aims to facilitate discussions and drive meaningful progress in addressing housing shortfalls.

At a recent meeting, the Housing Forum formally agreed on its mission:

“to provide policy-makers and decision-takers with independent, constructive and critical evaluation of policy and action targeted at addressing shortfalls in the supply of all types of quality housing to meet the islands needs.
The Housing Forum constituents represent key interest groups for whom housing is a priority; i) social (private & social, landlord & tenant), ii) economic (critical sectors), iii) infrastructure, iv) commercial (construction industry), v) civil service (appropriate departments) and vi) politics (aligned with the Committee for Housing).”

In preparation for the upcoming election, and the recently approved formation of a new government committee focused on housing, the forum has established some key calls to actions and messages for incoming politicians, which will be shared as part of the business community’s collective ‘Voice of Business’ advocacy efforts.

Unsurprisingly, these messages emphasise the urgent need for diverse housing solutions and the need for action without delay.
