The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce notes with sadness the suspension of flights by Blue Islands. This decision has immediate and significant implications for our islands, as Blue Islands has been the sole provider of inter-island air links and provided connection to the UK. We understand the distress this will cause to the Blue Islands team and their families, as well as the islanders and businesses affected by this disruption, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

As a collective, the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce is working closely with the Jersey Chamber of Commerce to ensure that our respective business communities receive the support they need during this challenging period. Together, we are engaging with our respective Governments and Ports to explore alternative, long term contingencies and safeguard essential travel links for channel island businesses and residents alike. We also recognise the importance of medical and other essential lifeline travel. Ensuring continuity of these routes is a priority in our engagement with governments and transport providers.

This situation also highlights the urgent need for stronger policy coordination between our islands’ governments to build and sustain the vital transport connections the Channel Islands and our wider region depend on.

We note and commend the actions being taken by both Aurigny and Logan Air to ensure support to our channel island community at this time.

We want to reassure our members and the wider business community that our islands, both Guernsey and Jersey, remain open for business despite the suspension of Blue Islands flights. Our priority is to work with the Channel Islands governments, with transportation companies and with all other interested stakeholders to minimise disruption and maintain the flow of people, goods, and business between our islands and the UK.

Following yesterday’s announcement, Aurigny has confirmed that it will step in to ensure continuity of vital air connectivity.

To support customers affected by Blue Islands ceased operations, special “Get Me Home” fares will be available on several routes. Full details and booking information can be found at: https://www.aurigny.com/information/disruptions

We thank Aurigny for their swift response and commitment to supporting Guernsey’s connectivity at this critical moment. We look forward to collaborating with them in the weeks and months ahead as we advocate for strong and stable connectivity for Guernsey and the wider Channel Islands.
