Running a business can be rewarding, exciting and full of possibility. It can also be isolating.
Behind every confident decision is often a business owner carrying pressure, uncertainty and responsibility. Sometimes, what leaders need most is not more advice from experts, but honest conversation with people walking a similar path.
That is the thinking behind a new initiative from Guernsey Chamber.
The SME Peer Board is a curated, confidential group designed to support and guide local business owners through shared experience, practical insight and accountability.
It also reflects Chamber’s wider mission to help local businesses thrive through connection, support and collaboration. As the island’s largest business community, Chamber creates opportunities for members to share knowledge and move forward together.
Five times a year, a small group of non-competing business owners will meet for facilitated sessions focused on real business challenges. It is not training, and it’s not networking – it’s a private space for honest conversation, fresh perspective and meaningful support.
Interim Chamber President and co-owner of Orchard PR, Brooke Kenyon, said the value of being in a room with other business owners should not be underestimated.
“When you run a business, there are plenty of moments where you have to be the one with the answers. That can feel quite isolating. Spending time with other business owners reminds you that you do not have to carry everything on your own.
“Some of the most valuable conversations I’ve had have been with people who understand the weight of leadership first hand. You leave with perspective, reassurance and often a clearer sense of what to do next. That is why I think this kind of initiative could make a real difference.”
The group will be facilitated by Kirsty Wheadon, Director and Head of Business Advisory at Grant Thornton Guernsey, who has 15 years’ experience supporting entrepreneurs, founders and leaders through facilitation and coaching.

Kirsty said the format gives people the space to step away from the day to day and tackle the issues that really matter.
“The SME Peer Board creates time and space for business owners to lift their heads, think clearly and talk honestly about the challenges they are facing. It is structured, confidential and focused on what is really going on in their businesses.
“What makes it powerful is the mix of facilitation and peer insight. People are not just reflecting on their own challenges. They are learning from others who understand the pressures of leadership and can offer grounded, relevant perspective.”
Places are limited, and groups will be carefully curated to make sure everyone in the room can speak freely.
The group is open to Chamber members and costs £150 for five facilitated sessions, taking place over the next six months.
