Mourant has strengthened its legal and governance services teams and its business support services in Guernsey, with a number of appointments confirmed recently, with some of those additions relocating during the global COVID-19 pandemic to take up their new positions.

Between April 2020 and April 2021, 26 people joined the Guernsey office, with 12 starting since January 2021. Of the 26 appointments made over the year, 12 were recruited to the legal services team, five to governance services and nine to the firm’s business services and support teams. These positions cover a wide remit of expertise and talent.

This significant investment in the Guernsey office further proves the commitment to the island, with six of the new appointments relocating for their role.

Although the Bailiwick has experienced long periods of near-normality compared to other jurisdictions during the global pandemic, Mourant is very grateful to these individuals who chose to move to the island to share their talents with our clients, at a time when their off-island travel options remain restricted.

Mourant Guernsey Managing Partner, John Lewis said everyone was keen to welcome the newest recruits to the Royal Chambers office.

“We all work very closely together so every starter receives a warm welcome from their colleagues, but this has been especially apparent over the last year. Some of our team had to do their induction programme online and meet their colleagues virtually, with one finishing his isolation period the day before Guernsey’s second lockdown was announced.

“Our most recent recruits have all now joined their colleagues in the office and have seamlessly fitted in to our team. Collectively they bring decades of additional experience to Mourant across their different areas of expertise which will benefit our clients directly.”

The appointments came at a time when Mourant invested in its team globally with 40 promotions announced recently, 24 of which were across the Guernsey and Jersey offices.

Mourant currently employs around 500 people across its six offices, and has been named Offshore Law Firm of the Year by three different legal industry publications over the past year.
