Architecture and design practice StudiO is taking the lead on upgrading facilities at the Jubilee Skatepark.

With RIBA Chartered Architect Doug Langlois spearheading the project, StudiO has developed exciting plans for a new and improved skate hut. This will feature a tuck shop, servery and chill-out space, plus much-needed storage.

Also in the works is a new raised viewing terrace which will make it much easier for parents and other spectators to watch the action.

The skatepark, situated close to Beau Sejour in Cambridge Park, currently features a basic, dated hut, used for storing equipment and serving drinks and snacks. Facilities for spectators are limited to a few open-air benches with a limited view of the skatepark itself.

In collaboration with Guernsey Skateparks, StudiO will be spearheading fundraising efforts to secure the necessary funds for the improvements.

Doug said:
“The skatepark is already a fantastic local resource, enjoyed by hundreds of people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. What’s lacking at the moment are adequate facilities for skaters and spectators. We’re working closely with Tim Gaudion from Guernsey Skateparks to make sure our design delivers exactly what’s needed.”

StudiO Founder and RIBA Chartered Architect Oliver Westgarth said:
“We love getting involved in community projects like this. Guernsey has lots of top-notch facilities for mainstream sports like football and hockey, but alternative sports like skating or surfing don’t always get the same attention.”

“It’s well documented that skateboarding improves mental health, fosters community, and promotes diversity and resilience. The skatepark is a hub for people of all ages – especially young people who may not naturally gravitate towards team sports – and they deserve a quality facility that lives up to their dedication and enthusiasm. We’re happy to be doing our bit to deliver something that Guernsey can be proud of.”

Tim Gaudion, head of Guernsey Skateparks, said:
“We’re pleased to be working with StudiO to improve our facilities at Jubilee. Doug has some great ideas and we’re excited to see them develop and take shape as the project progresses.”
