In 2024 we used 5900 tonnes of fossil-fuels to generate the island’s electricity – Guernsey may be small, but that’s 25 road trips around the globe.

Surprisingly, we use less electricity over Christmas than we do during a typical workweek. That’s because businesses and workplaces use a huge amount of electricity, and during the colder, darker months, that also means burning through thousands of tonnes of fossil fuels at the power station to top up low-carbon imported electricity from Europe.

So we got our heads together and thought…we need the business community to come together and take action to make some important waves in helping our island decarbonise. That’s why we’ve been working hard to put together some important talks, starting with ‘Let’s Talk about Energy – Business Edition’ to be held over pastries at Chamber on Tuesday 23 September 2025 from 07:45am.

We know that for many, sustainability can feel like a buzzword or a checkbox. But when energy is one of the most critical factors influencing better business practices, we want Guernsey’s sustainable business champions and leaders to have clear actions and insider knowledge to take away.

  • We’ll talk through practical, low-cost strategies to reduce emissions from energy
  • Explore our island’s energy journey to 2050, the financial and reputational benefits of your business taking genuine action
  • Provide solutions from capital investments to simple, everyday tweaks.

This isn’t about lip service; it’s about providing you with the tools and knowledge to run a better business from the inside out.
