Ferryspeed Group has appointed a former senior civil servant as Chief Executive Officer and former Condor Ferries executive as Chief Financial Officer.
Darren Scott, who joined the organisation in February as Chief Strategy Officer, has become Chief Executive Officer. He will lead the organisation’s strategic direction, develop the long-term future of Channel Island lifeline freight facilities, work to cultivate closer partnerships with customers, Government and other partners, and drive corporate governance and internal culture.
Before joining Ferryspeed, Darren was Chief of Staff at Ports of Jersey, where he developed the relationship with Government and other important stakeholders, and supported key initiatives, including the production of the Policy Framework for Ports Sector and securing planning approval for the redevelopment of Elizabeth Harbour.
Prior to that, he was the Government of Jersey’s Director of Partnerships, where he was responsible for its relationship with the seven States-owned entities, including JT, Andium Homes, Jersey Post, Jersey Development Company and Ports.
Darren has appointed Steven Broomfield as Chief Financial Officer. He is highly experienced, previously spending more than a decade at Condor Ferries, progressing to Finance Director. Prior to that he worked in Saudi Arabia for Almarai, the world’s largest integrated dairy, food and beverage manufacturer and distributor, as well as time spent as Group Finance Manager for Premier Marinas, who operate locations along England’s South Coast.
Co-Chairman Stan Markland said:
“These new key roles for Ferryspeed Group mark a new chapter, with Darren bringing valuable expertise, strategic thinking and a proven track record to drive Ferryspeed’s future direction and Steven focusing on leading and developing a robust finance function and driving continued strong performance.
“These appointments not only put the Group in a good position to face challenges and maximise future opportunities but are an investment in the Channel Islands’ lifeline freight services that all islanders rely on.”
Darren Scott added: “Ferryspeed plays a crucial role in Channel Island life that often goes unseen. Our activity underpins import and export trade, ensuring supply chain efficiency, job creation and support for various industries and sectors.
“A well-developed and efficient freight transport network is vital as a key driver of economic growth, prosperity and global connections, and I am excited to drive future strategy and support Channel Island resilience.”
Ferryspeed Group is made up of Ferryspeed, ProFreight, Polarkold and Port Partners, and is the key enabler in the Channel Island’s freight logistics, working with retailers, healthcare and pharmaceutical businesses, and the food, drink and agricultural sectors, with bases in Jersey, Guernsey and Portsmouth.
