Every month, we pose questions to a Chamber member. This time it’s Sophie Gregson, from OSA Recruitment
1. Who are you & what do you do?
I’m the Managing Director of OSA Recruitment, where I specialise in senior recruitment in Guernsey and oversee the day-to-day running of the business. I’ve been with OSA for 25 years and feel incredibly proud of the work we do. I’m passionate about helping people find roles where they can thrive and supporting businesses in building strong teams.
2. How did you end up doing this work?
After returning to Guernsey following my travels, I knew I wanted to work with people.
Initially I looked for roles in HR, but without the necessary experience it was difficult to find the right opportunity. I moved into recruitment to gain that experience, and very quickly fell in love with it! I have seen many changes over the years, and I am sure it will continue to evolve, as will OSA. The one main constant has been and is working with so many wonderful colleagues. We have been very fortunate over the years, and I really appreciate everyone I have worked with throughout my career.
3. What’s the ‘why’ behind your work?
For me, it’s all about helping people. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone happy and fulfilled in their working life. At OSA, we’re here for both our candidates and clients and take great pride in the service that we have built up over our nearly 40 years.
4. What’s something most people don’t know about your company, but they should?
One of the things we value most at OSA is our relationships that we have fostered over the years. These relationships have been extremely beneficial to the success of our business and we are all committed to ensuring that our clients and candidates know that we are here for them whatever their need.
We also like to keep things fun in the office with our “Fun Food Friday” tradition, where we bring the team together with breakfast or lunch. With a room full of foodies it’s a big hit, and a lovely way to connect and celebrate the week!
5. Tell us about a moment you felt proud of the difference your work made?
Receiving testimonials from clients and candidates where they tell us we’ve genuinely made a difference is always incredibly rewarding. Knowing that we’ve helped someone find the right opportunity, or supported a client in building their team, makes the work worthwhile. We’re also very pleased with the work we do with the third sector, and giving back to the community through our CSR initiatives is something that’s truly important to us.
6. What’s shaped how you think about your work?
Our Chairman, Nick Graham, has had a huge influence on the way I approach my work. He is deeply passionate about what he does and is extremely well thought of in our profession, so we are very lucky to have learnt from the best!
6. Tea, coffee, or something stronger? (And where do you enjoy it?)
A wonderful cup of tea, without question. I am very grateful to have so many great places to go to in Guernsey and in particular love it after a cliff walk with friends and ending up at Moulin Huet or Saints for a pot of tea and scone!
