Chamber’s first truly international entrepreneur event was hailed a huge success by global corporates who flew into the island specifically for it. Speaker Sam Bakri, who is a Government adviser, told 90 delegates at the OGH lunch event that the island has huge potential to encourage an enterprise mindset and high level investment. ‘You are perfectly placed to encourage the type of entrepreneurial industry which is high value but low head count so the impact on Guernsey is entirely positive,’ he said.
The event included a presentation from PWC’s international Entrepreneur Forum and was so successful that it marked the development of a major initiative by Chamber to work with these world-acclaimed figures who are keen to help Guernsey start-ups.
Dr Bakri pointed out that, unlike his Lebanese homeland, Guernsey does not have to contend with uprisings or military action: “We’re thriving in spite of that. Just imagine what you could do in this stable environment. He urged Government to address the transport situation to ensure that people can fly here through Europe from anywhere in the world as easily as possible and vice versa.
