The Guernsey Community Foundation has welcomed two new Directors, Alistair Bisson and Vanessa Spiller, to its Board.
Wayne Bulpitt, Chair of the Guernsey Community Foundation, said:
‘As the Foundation celebrates its fifth birthday it is opportune to refresh the Board and to look for complementary skills to those already in place. The Board is pleased to have attracted Directors of the calibre of Alistair and Vanessa to bring their knowledge, experience and particular skillsets to bear in leading the Foundation in the next stage of its development.’
Alistair Bisson
Born and educated in Guernsey Alastair is co-owner of CBO Projects, a consultancy focussed on project and programme management. Alistair has held senior project management roles in the UK and Europe with Marks & Spencer, Royal Mail, JP Morgan, UBS, RBS and Lloyds, and in Guernsey with the States of Guernsey.
President of the Guernsey Round Table in 2014/15, he has sat on the Round Table Council for the last four years and is on the Swimarathon Committee for 2016.
Married with two children Alistair spent 22 months driving an ageing Land Rover from Belize / Mexico to Argentina, raced motorcycles in the UK for 4 years, and is currently restoring an old farmhouse and advises that he will continue to do so for some years to come…
Vanessa Spiller
Vanessa is the current Chief Executive at St John Ambulance with overall strategic responsibility and operational oversight of the Commandery’s voluntary personnel. She is responsible for specific development programmes and delivery of the Commandery’s mission as of January 2015
Prior to this, Vanessa was Operations Director for the British Red Cross in the London area. A key achievement in this role was to lead the largest single British Red Cross operation since the 1953 Coronation to provide first aid support during the Olympics and including the Paralympics marathon. This resulted in her personally receiving the Red Cross Badge of Honour for Outstanding Service, and the London area receiving the Queen’s Diamond Volunteering Award for 2012.
Vanessa served as a Royal Navy Warfare Officer from 1983 to 2008 becoming the Navy’s first seagoing female warfare officer and first female Commander. Vanessa coordinated humanitarian assistance in 1998 resulting in the award of the Wilkinson Sword of Peace for HMS Sheffield.
Vanessa is a Trustee of InterHealth Worldwide, a committee member of Parkinson’s Society Guernsey, and is an elected member of the Forest Parish Douzaine.
