Sarah Mutimer, who works in the Finance Team at Intertrust in Jersey, is challenging herself to complete the Guernsey Granite Man Middle Distance Triathlon in September as the latest in a series of sporting challenges.
The Triathlon will be held at Pembroke Bay and consists of a 1.9km open water swim, a 90km bike ride and a 21km run.
The swim starts at 7am and athletes then cycle east, via St Sampson’s Harbour, and along the coast road on the north of the island. The race culminates with a run that takes on a well-established coastal route.
The Guernsey Granite Man is the latest challenge in a year of sporting events for Sarah, who also completed the Jersey Triathlon in July.
Sarah will donate the money raised by her participation in the Guernsey Granite Man to the Marie Curie charity. Marie Curie helps people living with any terminal illness, and their families, with expert care, guidance and support.
Sarah said: “I’ve made a lot of progress since the Jersey Triathlon by increasing my run distances and now my focus is on ‘brick sessions’, making the transition smoothly between cycling and running during the race. Since my exams finished in June I’ve had a lot more time to train and prepare myself. In 2015 I did the Granite Man for the first time and as soon as I crossed the finish line I knew I wanted to do it again and beat my time.
“My colleagues at Intertrust are very supportive and are encouraging me with my training, as well as very kindly sponsoring me.
“So far I have raised nearly £300 for the Marie Curie charity; they did an excellent job of looking after my nanny, allowing her to stay at home to live out her final days surrounded by family, instead of in a hospital with restricted visiting hours.”
Simon Mackenzie, managing director of Intertrust in Jersey, said: “It is fantastic that Sarah has taken part in different sporting challenges this year to raise money for charity. At Intertrust we try to support as many employees as we can with their fundraising. We all wish Sarah the best of luck.”
The Guernsey triathlon takes place on 3 September 2017.
