A packed week of inspirational events for entrepreneurs will be hosted by Startup Guernsey this November.
Global Entrepreneurship Week is a worldwide celebration of business activity and entrepreneurship designed to encourage people to start their own business. From 14-18th November, Startup Guernsey will be putting on various free events at the Digital Greenhouse in Market Square.
There will be networking opportunities, talks on building a business, advice from Womenpreneurs, an opportunity to pitch business ideas to angel investors, a Christmas Fair as well as social media and marketing workshops.
This year there will be 10 free events, which will allow attendees to network, learn new business skills, connect with potential mentors and even meet investors.
For those looking to find out more about angel investing or looking to pitch their ideas to investors, the week opens with an Angel Pitch Event, sponsored by Barclays as well as a speed-networking event, provided by the Busy Guernsey Bee.
Entrepreneurs looking for inspiration can join a series of talks and networking events, including a FinTech talk with James Sore, Chief Investment Officer at online investment platform, SyndicateRoom, who will be talking about how their business is driving innovation by empowering retail investors to confidently invest in early stage companies. At the heart of SyndicateRoom is a culture of openness and transparency, whereby individual investors get the same access to deals as the professionals. This applies to both private and public deals – and the industry’s first passive early stage fund, Fund Twenty8.
There will also be a workshop on growing your business with Action Coach as well as an opportunity to meet and find out more about membership and training opportunities with organisations such as The Guernsey Chamber of Commerce, WDF, the GTA and the Digital Greenhouse.
Womenpreneurs will also be the focus of the Island Mums workshop featuring local businesswomen who are leading the way in breaking from the corporate mould and establishing businesses that align with their passions and balance with their family life.
There will also be the opportunity to attend a practical hands on social media workshop hosted by All Things Social as well as a marketing session with Black Vanilla which will take you back to basics and discuss the importance of reputation, relationships and reach in modern marketing plans.
The week’s events will cumulate in a Christmas Fair, sponsored by Grant Thornton. This will showcase and celebrate creative talent and includes artists, printmakers, designers, jewelers, illustrators, interior designers as well as food and drink companies. The whole idea is to generate wider public awareness of local creatives and help forge links with other entrepreneurs with a view to promoting future business opportunities.
By offering a series of events over the week, Startup Guernsey aims to provide inspiration as well as tackling some areas such as angel investing, how to handle your marketing and social media and advice from womenpreneurs on starting a business.
Executive director of Startup Guernsey, Jennifer Strachan, said:
“I would encourage anyone interested in entrepreneurialism to check out the range of activities on our website and look forward to a busy week of events.
Our goal is to encourage those looking to start a company to seek help from Startup Guernsey; we have the resources to help, inspire and educate those that are taking the plunge.”
Global Entreprenuership Week is not just a week of activities for startups; it’s also aimed at people who have never before considered launching their own venture who can come along to take advice and be inspired.
All events are free but places are limited and should be booked in advance via Eventbrite on the Startup Guernsey website www.startup.gg
